こととて

こととて is a formal expression of reason or cause, used when the result is considered natural, understandable, or unavoidable given the situation.

It is often used to:

• Give polite explanations or excuses

• Show understanding or sympathy

• Soften responsibility by implying “it couldn’t be helped”

Compared to から / ので, こととて sounds much more formal, indirect, and literary. It is mainly used in written Japanese, formal apologies, notices, and JLPT reading passages.
